Story
Ban Phanom lies a few kilometres east of the old town and is traditionally associated with the Tai Lue people. It is well known for hand-weaving silk and cotton; looms can often be seen under houses and in small workshops. Visitors can buy textiles directly from weavers, so more of the price stays in the community. Ask before photographing people at work, and remember that a single piece can take days or weeks to weave.
