Story

Every evening, part of Sisavangvong Road closes to traffic and rows of stalls are set up under red and blue canopies. Vendors, many from Hmong and other ethnic communities, sell textiles, embroidery, paper lanterns, silverware, coffee and handicrafts. Bargaining is expected but should stay friendly and fair. Ask vendors where items are made, and choose locally made pieces to support local artisans.

In the UNESCO heritage zone — The old-town peninsula is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 1995). Building height, materials and signage are regulated to protect its character.
