Story

Several small pharmacies operate in the old town, including this one on Sisavangvatthana Road. They stock common medicines, rehydration salts, insect repellent and sunscreen. Staff may speak limited English, so bring the generic name of any medicine you need. For anything serious, go to the provincial hospital.

In the UNESCO heritage zone — The old-town peninsula is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 1995). Building height, materials and signage are regulated to protect its character.
