Story

Sakkaline Road, the continuation of Sisavangvong Road through the temple quarter, is where many visitors observe Tak Bat, the daily morning alms giving. Around dawn (roughly 05:30–06:30, depending on the season), monks and novices walk in silent lines to receive sticky rice from kneeling residents. This is a religious practice, not a performance. Watch quietly from the opposite side of the street, never use flash, and never block the monks' path.

In the UNESCO heritage zone — The old-town peninsula is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 1995). Building height, materials and signage are regulated to protect its character.
