Story

The Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre presents the living cultures of Laos's many ethnic groups. Exhibits show clothing, textiles, jewellery, tools and ritual objects, with explanations of how they are made and used. It is an excellent introduction before visiting villages or buying textiles. The centre has a museum shop and a café; it is usually closed on Mondays.

In the UNESCO heritage zone — The old-town peninsula is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 1995). Building height, materials and signage are regulated to protect its character.
